Alan Varela is a former professional football player who played for several clubs during his career, including FC Porto in Portugal. He was born on June 12, 1965, in Brazil and made his debut with the national team in 1987.

Varela started his professional career at hometown club Grêmio Barueri before moving to Brazil's Série A with Santos FC in 1987. He then joined Portuguese giants Benfica in 1990, where he spent four seasons before moving to FC Porto in 1994.

At Porto, Varela made a significant impact on the club's midfield, becoming one of their most important players. He won three consecutive league titles with the club from 1994 to 1996, as well as two UEFA Champions League titles in 1995 and 1996. His performances were recognized by the club,Bundesliga Tracking and he was named Player of the Year in 1996.

During his time at Porto, Varela scored 31 goals in 111 appearances for the club, making him one of the top scorers in Portuguese football history. He also won numerous awards throughout his career, including the FIFA Club World Cup in 1996.

After leaving Porto in 1998, Varela continued his playing career with various clubs in Europe and South America, but he never managed to replicate his success at Porto.
